Day 01. Thazundum – Madain. (trek)
From Thazundum, we shall head west following the swift-flowing Seinkhuwang River valley. We follow the river, skirting around boulders and crossing the river on makeshift bridges. The river drops from 3,500 metres to 1,300 metres over a short distance which means there are several small waterfalls along this difficult route. Once we leave the river and climb up the side of the valley, we will catch sight of the prayer flags of the ethnic Tibetan village of Madain. The people here may be amongst the friendliest on earth, and make for good company this evening. We have our dinner and overnight at a local home.
Day 02. Madain – Guba. (trek)
Today we bid goodbye to our hosts and travel further south to Guba, another extremely remote ethnic Tibetan village. If we continued further west from here, we would reach the 14,200 ft, 4,328 metre high Depulakha pass, a distance of about 15 miles. From here you can access the Zaryon River valley of Assam, India, or walk on into Tibet. We shall have dinner and overnight at one of the local homes.
Day 03. Guba – Thazundum. (Trek)
After some breakfast we start out for Thazundum via Dakondum Camp, to rejoin the Adunglong Valley route. The camp, situated at 10,200 ft, 3,050 metres boasts absolutely fantastic views; it is difficult to describe how beautiful it is. Famous British explorer and botanist Frank Kingdon-Ward drew parallels between this area and Switzerland. Blue pine trees are set against a backdrop of high, snow-covered Himalayan peaks such as Mt Zalaphaung. Travel here between December and March and the scene is complimented by the red, white and yellow of Rhododendrons in full bloom. We shall have dinner and overnight at a local home in Thazundum.
