Ayravata Cruises original riverboat, the 150 foot, steel-hulled Pandaw 1947 is an original Irrawaddy Flotilla Company vessel built in, you guessed it, 1947 at Yarrow shipyard, Glasgow. She was refurbished in 1998 and has been in service as a boutique river cruise ship ever since. In 2007 the Paukan, a lovely 183 foot river cruiser was built in Yangon and joined her sister ship on the Ayeyarwady River.
Pandaw 1947 operates 4 and 5 day cultural discovery cruises between Mandalay and Bagan, as well as longer cruises through the second defile to Bhamo, and up the remote Chindwin River. Prices on Pandaw 1947 are inclusive of transfers between the ship and airport, all meals, sightseeing tours and monument entrance fees. Paukan operates 2 and 3 day cruises between Mandalay and Bagan. Pandaw 1947
This original steamer’s refurbishment retained many old touches such as the teak and ironwood decks, old brass outfitting and the 16 teak-walled spacious cabins, measuring 3.35 x 4 metres. Additional features were incorporated to make her lovelier, more comfortable and safe, a truly boutique-style cruise ship. Specially-designed new furniture replaced the old and air-conditioning has been fitted. For a luxury touch, natural handmade soap is installed in each shower and essence burners in each cabin. The menus were completely made over and include such succulent fare for dinner as roasted turkey with mushroom sauce, and the lunch buffet offers a variety of Western and Asian cuisine including delectable desserts. New Year or Christmas trips and special requests offer enchanting fire-lit dinners on a sandy island with wonderful food and traditional dance and music entertainment by the Bagan School of Arts.
Paukan
The lovely Paukan is a boutique hotel on the river, beautifully furnished with a unique combination of modern and traditional motifs. The timber-walled cabins are furnished with colonial style cupboards, dresser and doors while the ceiling is traditional Myanmar. The single or double beds are proper and comfortable ones and not mere bunks, enough room for 55 passengers who will be looked after by a 30-member crew.
For luxury-living, Paukan has suites, deluxe or superior cabins as well as singles for guest or guides. There are two massage rooms on the lower deck offering traditional Myanmar massage designed to give soothing relaxation. The sun deck has a stage for cultural performances, and a bar and lounge for relaxation and fun. The upper deck has a lecture/ movie room with LCD projector and LCD TV screen. Meals in the dining room on the main deck will include both East and West cuisine, and dinner menus of delicious dishes. Vegetarian meals can be prepared when informed in advance.
