This section contains details of the most famous, and some lesser known towns, cities and attractions in Myanmar. Make yourself a coffee and have a read through; this is where you can start to plan your journey through the ‘Golden Land’.We start with the locations that should be on any first-time visitors list: Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake; known as the ‘Big Four’. These four areas have a host of attractions and are also the jumping-off point for daytrips to ancient cities, remote pagodas, shrines and country towns, as well as for scenic boat journeys and treks. The ‘Big Four’ offer the widest range of accommodation options, from comfortable two star, through good-value three and four star, to boutique and luxury hotels. ‘Further Exploration’ covers 12 more fascinating and diverse areas of the country which are also well worth exploring, ranging from regional capitals to hill stations, trekking centres to sacred mountains. All of these additional destinations can be accessed by flight, or car from one or more of the ‘Big Four. Overnight accommodation can also be arranged in all of these locations, or close by. But even this is not all Myanmar has to offer – far from it! Once you have had a look through the options and travel ideas here, please have a look at the boxes on the left of our homepage. This is where you can find out about the beach resorts, adventure tours, golf courses, national parks and sanctuaries, mountain climbs and long-distance treks, river cruises .... |
