Its not often you come across such a gem of a location along with really nice people working at this resort. The rooms are sensual, perfect for honeymooners, couples, moreover this resort is sold to many honeymooners all over Asia. Its roughly 100 Meters before the water gets deep, which means Children are safe frolicking in the water. I also caught fish with a old spear gun a mere 10 minutes by boat from the beach, this is unheard of in most parts of the world. The only drawback is you must eat at the resort due to health issues in shops around the resorts. Locals have the resistance, we don't. I am going there again this year, while the place is still pristine, because sooner or later tourists will come in droves, probably spoil the place. This chain is not government owned as well for those that believe in the barrage of negative publicity Myanmar receives, a lot of it is simply not true in relation to Myanmar. The lovely, average people of this lovely country needs your patronage.

We loved being here. Rooms were large and comfortable, if somewhat simply furnished. But staying here is all about the beach and getting away from it all. This is the best beach in Asia...remote, prudently developed, pristine and comforting. This lovely resort was just perfect. The food was remarkably good for such a remote location. And just beyond the hotel entrance were several good local restaurants.
The staff spoke impeccable English and were eager to please.
Don't go if you need nightlife. There is none. Internet connection is possible but expensive. This is all about getting away from things. And the Amata Hotel is just perfect for that.

The Amata isn't the priciest hotel on Ngapali Beach, but it has everything and the staff are really friendly. We had a room right overlooking the beach, with a patio on the waterfront. There is not much to do, but after 3 weeks wandering around Myanmar, we didn't want to do much anyway. The food was a bit ordinary, but if you walk outside the gates, there are several local restaurants with wonderful seafood. There are dire warnings in the hotel about their cleanliness, but we were fine! It's not Thailand, but we preferred the local flavour.

Spent five nights at this amazing beachfront resort. Nothing to fault. The setting was incredible, the room and bathroom was clean, food was good, the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional. Pricing of beverages etc was reasonable. Airport shuttle free. The resident nurse took my bad bout of flu very seriously and cured it with some antibiotics, all at no charge. By far the fastest internet connection found in Mynamar. The only minor disappointment was the pool which is not located in a great place for privacy or relaxation.

We loved our time at this resort. We had a sea view villa. It was a little house with the bedroom upstairs and a small garden outside with a hammock. The staff here were fabulously friendly and very helpful. We ate both in the hotel restaurant and in the restaurants on the street outside. The food was equally good at both. Beer was significantly cheaper outside !! The beach is very clean and you can walk into the sea up to your neck. There are 'security' on the beach to stop people trying to sell to you but to be honest this really didn't happen at all. Some girls with trays of fruit would walk along the waters edge and if you wanted to buy you went up to them..... The locals here were incredibly friendly. There is a hotel bus to the airport and it takes about 30 mins. I would definitely go back to this hotel is was a fab getaway. Breakfast was also excellent.....

This really is a very comfortable modern place to stay with excellent staff and service. In fact the whole of our stay in Myanmar was first class and throughout the country the people deserve our patronage because they are quite simply warm and very friendly. The cabana rooms are well furnished with TV and seating area on the ground floor and the bedroom on an open plan mezzanine floor. Well appointed bathrooms. All very nice but not a great view from any of the cabana rooms. Each does have a pleasant seating area outside them but this isn’t private as the paths to rooms passes close by. Cheaper rooms at the back of the hotel will just have views of the rear of other buildings in front of them. The beachfront grand cabanas have a perfect location and outside private seating area but are expensive. If these are booked and you want beach front you could get similar at Sandaway for slightly less costs. New rooms in an annex yards away designated 701 at beachfront going towards the garden at 718 are just rooms not suites but with sea views. These may prove to be the best buys with good sea view if you get one near the front. The Amata is a class hotel though. The grounds are well kept filled with attractive plants, the lobby area and walk through to the restaurant/pool area is stunning and its all obviously beach front. And, unlike the busier parts of Thailand, this is a 2 kilometre beach shared by very few hotels and few people, even if all hotels were full, which, sadly for the locals, they are not. All very safe as well and no hassle from beach vendors. Hotel food is very good and drinks not expensive for this class of hotel but you just must support the local economy by eating at nearby restaurants. Just out of the main entrance to the hotel on the coast road you’ll find a selection of places to eat within a few hundred yards and a dozen within the mile strip. We tried a few, all good and inexpensive. Each person we spoke to seemed to have their own favourites with all recommending the food and hospitality of their hosts. Unrequested desserts or occasionally after dinner drinks with compliments of the house seemed normal if you’ve been friendly and chatty with the owners. A delight to see such good service.

I have just returned from 9 nights of bliss at Ngapali Beach in Myanmar for my Christmas Holiday with my girlfriend. Ngapali is a beautiful and undeveloped beach located in the Rakhine State, and is a 55-minute flight from Myanmar's Yangon.
I stayed at the Amata Spa and Resort in a Cabana Cottage. The cottage was quiet and private and stocked with the amenities one would expect at a beach resort such as toiletries, refrigerator, plenty of storage space, A/C/ etc... The cottages are stand alone and afforded ample privacy as well as a beautiful garden area, and deck complete with lounge chairs.
The Amata has a business center with 2 computer terminals (or you can opt for spotty wireless service) though I suspect the reason for visiting Ngapali is to get away from business and to relax!
There is a beautiful swimming pool that is conveniently located and was cleaned daily (early morning). The western edge of the pool is an "infinity type" that overlooks the ocean.
The Amata is located literally on the beach and has numerous beach lounge chairs each protected by a beautiful thatched umbrella that affords protection from the sun. The Amata staff were always on hand to provide clean beach towels and flotation devices for pool or ocean activities to include life jackets, tubes, or a kayak or wind surfer that were available for rent.
Breakfast is included in your room rate and included fresh squeezed fruit juices such as pineapple, watermelon, or my girlfriend's favorite: papaya. There is also an adequate mix of both Asian and Western fare served in a comfortable setting overlooking the beautiful beach.
Lunch and dinner included a variety of foods including appetizers that ranged again from Asian to Western cuisine. The Chef is Thai, and his assistant is Chinese. The cooking staff are hardworking, friendly and very good at what they do. Our favorite dishes included: grilled eggplant, fresh avocado salad, shrimp rolls, grilled red snapper, the Rakhine seafood salad, the delectable crab, and of course the tom yum soup; oh and I almost forgot my sweet tooth enjoyed a nightly bowl of vanilla ice cream (hey this was vacation)! My girlfriend had ordered the fresh crab one night that was truly sublime. As she is finicky when it comes to food-she stated this was the best crab she has ever tasted and after sampling it myself, I concurred with the sentiment of her palate.
Although I do not claim to be a foodie, I appreciated the fact that on 2 occasions a few of the dishes did not meet our expectations an were returned to the Chef. The Chefs then tweaked their recipes. For example I ordered the seafood chowder one night and it was lumpy in texture (in a cottage cheese sort of way-almost as if the creamy sauce had broke) and it did not taste like seafood chowder. The next evening the Chefs had prepared a French style seafood chowder that was delicious-and definitely exceeded my expectations.
The food and beverage staff were outstanding. And while on occasion there were some difficulties with translation, overall I cannot say enough about these hardworking individuals. From the food and beverage manager Ed, to our waiter Kyaw, we appreciated their demeanor, professionalism, and efforts that added to our overall experience of this trip.
The housekeeping staff were remarkable-and twice a day kept our room spotless and stocked with clean towels as well as ensuring empty trash bins. These staff were efficient and inconspicuous as we never saw their presence-only the results of their efforts. The turn-down service included a pleasant addition of a fresh flower on the bed-a very nice touch.
Bikes were available to rent as was other hotel sponsored activities. From golf to day excursions there is no shortage of activities. We did rent a boat that took us to a secluded beach, where we snorkeled and enjoyed fresh grilled seafood under the shade of some palm trees. An full day of privacy and total relaxation. We did not use the Amata's service for this but a local named Thein whose wife sells handicraft's along the beach, and who owns a restaurant across the street from the Amata that serves fresh seafood as well. The name of the restaurant has slipped my mind, but it begins with the letter S, and if you exit the grounds of the Amata, turn right, and walk for 30 seconds or so you will find the restaurant on the left-you cannot miss it!!
Ngapali beach is probably one of the few remaining beaches in the world where you see and experience the lifestyle of the Burmese who have been living in this coastal area for centuries and utilizing the natural resources from the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. And the Amata Resort is the perfect venue to experience such an relaxing and peaceful endeavor!
