The best thing about the Silver Star is its proximity to the best eating in Mandalay- the chapatis stand on the corner, Nepali Food, and of course, Nylon Ice Cream Bar.
The rooms were basic, but if you're on a higher floor it's nice to open up one of the large sliding windows and watch the world go by.
The hotel does offer Internet access for 1500k an hour, but it wasn't working when I was there.

Good value for the money. Disconcerting to see the reception staff rush away to turn the generator on so we could use the lift!
Handy spot in central city.

In February my wife and I stayed a night at the Silver Star in Mandalay.
Our room (on the 4th floor, I believe) was clean, quiet, and fantastic value.
Hotel is in a reasonable location, and no problems with mosquitoes.
We paid $28 for our room, and this seemed to be great value compared to other options.
