I found the Savoy Hotel to have both met and exceeded my expectations.

It is a chaming hotel, and I remember being struck by its beauty and old-world feeling as I (jet-lagged) left the noisy streets of Yangon for the peace of the Savoy.

The room was beautiful, with deep wooden floors and cabinets that were amazing. There was a historical feeling about the whole place, right down to the lounge and wine bottles lined up in one room near the lobby.

This is a five-star boutique hotel.

Savoy Hotel is an excellent boutique hotel in Yangon. Rooms are cozy, spacious, modern and clean. Facilities are fantastic and the hotel has a great swimming pool. The building itself is a colonial house, which is full of small, tasteful details. Management is fantastic and hotel staff is extremely friendly. Breakfast was perfect, in a small, cozy area of the second floor.

Hotel is centrally located, about 10 minutes by taxi from Schwedagon Pagoda.

Excellent option to relax from the hustle and the bustle of Yangon.

We stayed at the Savoy for one day at the beginning of our tour , then for two days at the end.
We had requested a pool facing room ( on advice from T/A forum ) due to the fact that the hotel is situated fright on a busy street corner with heavy traffic. This request was honoured.
Don't let this fact deter you from staying at the Savoy as it has so much to offer.
The hallways, and rooms and public areas are stocked with antiques, handicrafts, pictures and photographs. Reception area welcoming, with efficient staff . The bedroom was spacious and the bed comfortable. bathroom was also large and well stocked with all the required "goodies" Restaurant was light with spotless linen on the tables. Food was of a good standard, the lemon grass soup was to die for, I requested it on all three occasions I dined there. The head chef who is German kindly gave me the recipe, hope it can be emulated to his standard. Good service and breakfast was adequate. Golden buddha statue,Shwedagon Paya can be seen from the window seats of the restaurant, it proved to be winner on our first night, like dangling a carrot, tempting us!
Bar area was a bit small to cater for all the customers, who were mainly x-pats taking advantage of the happy hour( 6-8pm )Plenty of room after eight.
We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely stay at the Savoy again, as someone stated " Basically what you get at this Myanmar -German joint venture is Strand Hotel standards without the price tag.

I spent 6 nights at the Savoy and would recommend it to anyone. Very efficiently managed, spotlessly clean, with very friendly and helpful staff. I did not have a single problem all week. Good location - $2 (10 mins) by taxi to downtown and less to the unbelievably impressive Shwedagon pagoda. Top value for money!

Having read all the positive reviews on the Savoy in TA and also seeing it featured in brochures we decided reserve it for a stay over New Year prior to travelling up country.

Can confirm all the positive comments.

The airport pickup was efficient and our evening check-in was friendly and quick and being a small “boutique” hotel our luggage was in our room as quick as we were.
As we were staying a few days and celebrating New Year we reserved a suite which still only cost 25% of what a room at The Strand would cost and we specified a Pool View as earlier comments mentioned the other suites can be suffer from road noise.

The original building was built in the 1920’s for a Physician from the USA embassy and converted and extended in 1998 , the new extension housing the bedrooms and the original building being very sympathetically converted for reception, bars, lounges, and the various restaurants keeping all the original major features including the teak staircase.

Our room was well furnished with good air-con, comfortable bed, TV , safe and minibar and a large bathroom with big bath and separate shower.
But no coffee/tea making facilities!?
We were warned that because of the age and design of the building that hot water could take a bit of time to come through but that was not an issue and it was piping hot on arrival although pressure was not good in the shower. Good turndown service and plenty of good quality towels .Lots of hanging space. Separate air-conditioning for each room although they have to be manually reset/started after the occasional. albeit brief , power cut.

Breakfast is al a carte with a lovely fruit plate, great breads and decent egg dishes.
Decent sandwiches/salads are served around the pool at lunchtime. Beer and wine is sensibly priced and the half price happy hour in the bar is always busy. Also take the opportunity to have a pre dinner drink on the first floor terrace overlooking a flood lit Shwedagon Pagoda.
You can use any menu in all the restaurants-Terrace, Rossini, and Kipling’s which was a big plus and all of the food was of high quality and another big plus is that there is unlimited bottled water at meals and whilst around the pool.

New Years Eve dinner around the pool was a good event with a very stylish menu, designed by Yves the Executive Chef, which included Salmon and Butterfish, Grilled Prawn & Scallop, Veal or Venison and delicious chocolate pud – there is definitely passion in the kitchen. The free flow wine flowed

The pool has a few sun beds but is only a small area and you have to move them around to catch the shade/sun.

The Savoy is ideally situated, taxis are only $3 to downtown and if you want to stretch your legs there are shops and restaurants nearby.

The hotel is extremely well run by the GM, Katie supported by Yves.

This will be our hotel of choice when visiting Yangon in the future.
