My wife and I were there on our honeymoon. It has an extraordinary ambiance, food, location.
The owners really have put a lot of attention to every single detail
We really felt in an Oasis in the midst of Yangon.

A beautiful old colonial hotel set in a tropical garden in the suburbs of Yangon. The candlelit gardens at night surrounded by glowing parasols gave an aura of romantic tranquilty. Our rose scented Garden View room had a beautiful part sunken granite bath and shower. There were luxurious toileteries in coloured glass bottles refilled daily. Bathrobes and slippers are provided. The hotel itself has been wonderfully refurbished in teak with a lovely swimming pool. There is also an ornamental fish pond with large koi carp which gives the impression of being an extension of the swimming pool. The staff can't do enough for you although their English is a bit limited on occasions. The food is wonderful, wine good but alcohol is expensive in Myanmar. We drank copious quantities of fresh lime juice and also Tiger Beer which is cheap. It is easy to get a taxi into Yangon for about US$ 5 (for 4 people). Tours of the city and sights may also be arranged. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights from 10 - 13 Feb. 2010 and it was one of the nicest experiences we have had in our many travels. We can't speak more highly of it!
This former guest house for the leader of one of the tribes of Burma, the Governor's Residence is superb. The accommodations, food and service are impeccable and beautiful. And because of that, the experience is one of complete relaxation and enjoyment. I can't recommend this hotel enough, especially as the place to spend your first and last days in the country.
We stayed here twice during our visit to Myanmar. We found the hotel to be an excellent choice. Breakfast and a dinner were both excellent. Sitting outside enjoying the warm weather is splendid. The dinner was extremely well done with a great dessert. the rooms are nice. Special kudos to the IT person who fixed my laptop. I used the hotel Wifi with no problems. Lastly, for joggers the location is quite good with little traffic in the immediate area.

This hotel is a real treasure - a haven in this busy capital. It's located in the elegant and quiet Embassy Quarter and excludes real class - another jewel for Orient Express .

It is a wonderful wooden antique Shan Mansion which has a very special atmosphere, enhanced by the design and care of the public areas and the rooms, the Governor's rooms in particular. The building is surrounded by a beautiful lush garden which screens it from the outside world. It is especially magical at night when dining by candlelight on the exquiste cuisine of Chef Olivier Guilmain - his treatment of fresh local ingredients is masterful.
The welcome the Staff provide is genuine and warm and no request is too small or difficult for them - and indeed, above all, it is the Staff who makes this hotel so very special.

We have been traveling to Myanmar yearly for 5 to 6 years. And we always look forward to our stay at this incredible hotel where we have fallen in love with the staff and the incredible beauty and surroundings. The rooms are lovely, comfortable and always clean. the food is amazing although somewhat expensive. we would enjoy more variety of vegetarian food and pastas. But it is the kind and attentive staff that always make us feel so much at home. In addition, the setting for this hotel can't be beat even by the 5 star bangkok hotels! It really is a paradise and we look forward to our next visit in November 2009 to this hotel. Finally, the GM and Ms. PaPa are always on hand to ensure our stay and needs are promptly met.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel as the first stage and the closure of our thip in Myanmar. We stayed three nights in Yangon and all of them in the Governor's.

In the city tour we had the chance to see other hotels and definitely this is the option to pick. The Governor´s is part of the Orient Express Hotel company.

The hotel location is 30 minutes walking distance from the city centre, and 10 minutes by car. It is in the "embassys area", a quite and distinctive area in a colonial style with dark wood everywhere, gardens and a nice swimmingpool.

We stayed in a double deluxe room: great space and comfort. We assumed to have mosquitos and other garden "guests" (as we were sourronded by gardens) but the staff has everything under control and not even one disturbed our dreams (the rooms do not have mosquito net and no need at all)

The service is very good, kind and efficient people with great interest in showing quality. Food is very godd with a nice balance among local, asian and western specialities.

In two words, if you appreciate quality in a hotel with few guests and to relax after a day in Yangon, stay at the Governor's.
