27 Day Tour – Yangon, Putao, Mt Phongun Razi Expedition, Mandalay, Amarapura, Inwa, Sagaing, Bagan, Taunggyi, Kakku, Inle Lake, Pindaya, Myeik (Mergui) Archipelago Adventure and Kawthoung.

Day 1. Arrival at Yangon Airport.

Your representative will meet you at the airport and escort you to your transfer car. Check in to your chosen hotel. If you have arrived on a morning flight embark on your half day orientation tour of Yangon.

Day 2. Have breakfast at your hotel. Enjoy a full day excursion in the colonial city of Yangon culminating in a visit to the breathtaking Shwedagon Pagoda.

Day 3. Breakfast today is followed by a transfer to the airport for your flight to Putao, the northernmost airstrip in the country. On arrival meet your guide and jeep and travel to your guesthouse. Spend the afternoon acquainting yourself with this remote outpost.

Day 4. Visit the attractive market in the morning before setting off by jeep for Upper Shangaung. The trek to Mt. Phongun Razi starts here. Six hours trekking brings us to the Rawan village of Wasandum where we will stay in a small local guesthouse.

Day 5. Cross Namro Creek to Awadum via a suspension bridge and trek to Kalang, another Rawan village. Continue through deep evergreen forest to the village of Ziyadum at 1040 metres. This is the last frontier village in this region.

Day 6. Leaving human habitation behind, trek to Chaungsone suspension bridge over Phangran creek. Continue along a mule trail to Thitpingyi camp for our first nights wilderness camping.

Day 7. An uphill trek today takes us from evergreen forest, through pine and rhododendron forest. We camp at 2575 metres in a beautiful location.

Day 8. About 5 hours trekking today to the snow line where we camp in the pine forest.

Day 9. Trek to the summit at 3485 metres. If the weather is clear it’s possible to see some considerable distance over the border into Arunchal Pradesh state, India. Return to the camp for dinner.

Day 10. Trek back to Thitpingyi camp through ever changing topography and flora. Continue downhill all the way to Khan Thaut Myit camp and overnight.

Day 11. A nice and easy downhill trail takes us to Ziyadum. Cross Phangran creek via the suspension bridge and take the trail along the river. Overnight in a local home.

Day 12. Trek though evergreen forest to Wasandum for dinner at the guesthouse.

Day 13. Trek uphill to the Mt Shangaung plateau on onwards downhill to meet the jeep. Drive back to the Putao guesthouse.

Day 14. A transfer to the airport ends this phase of your holiday. Your flight will take you to Mandalay where you can relax after your climb.

Day 15. A full day in the ancient cities area today. Amarapura and Inwa on the East bank of the mighty Ayeyarwady followed by lunch. In the afternoon continue onto Sagaing on the west bank, the meditation centre of Myanmar. We stop for sunset photos at the famous teak U Bein Bridge.

Day 16. After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the short flight to Bagan. After checking in to your hotel continue on a tour of the archaeological zone of this amazing ‘tentative’ world heritage site. Sunset from one of the tallest pagodas.

Day 17. Have breakfast at your hotel. Optional dawn champagne balloon ride over the pagodas of Bagan. Commence a second full day tour of Bagan. Visit famous Pagodas such as Shwezigon, dating from the 11th Century and the stunning Ananda. Sunset photo opportunities from a different pagoda.

Day 18. Breakfast is followed by the short morning flight to Heho, in the Shan Hills. On arrival our driver will meet you for the journey to the Pa O ethnic village of Kyauktalone. Pick up your local guide and continue onto Kakku, the most revered shrine in the district home to some 2,500 pagodas. In the afternoon drive to Taunggyi to take in its attractions before arriving at your Inle Lake hotel.

Day 19. Set off for a full day’s exploration of the Inle Lake area. Photograph the Intha fishermen’s leg-rowing technique then continue onto a 5-day ethnic market. Meet the local tribal people and observe the fascinating local cottage industries. Visit the now famous ‘jumping cat’ monastery and Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda with its five sacred gold-covered Buddha images.

Day 20. Meet you boat and local Pa O guide for the scenic three hour journey to the far southern reaches of the lake and the village of Sankar. Explore the ruins here, have lunch and meet the people of this area where few foreigners reach.

Day 21. After breakfast meet your driver for the journey to Pindaya. There is time to explore the famous caves here and have lunch before continuing to the airport and your flight back to Yangon. We will meet you on arrival and transfer you back to your hotel.

Day 22. Back to the airport for the flight south to Kawthoung. On arrival your boat crew will greet you and escort you to the dock. Depart in the afternoon for the virgin 115 Island. Anchor overnight off Nyaung Wee Island.

Day 23. After breakfast visit a Salone (Moken or Sea Gypsy) village. Continue by boat to Bo Cho Island where you can bushwalk and swim.

Day 24. Depart for Kubo Island where you can trek and bird watch. Continue to Salet Galet and Lampi Islands. This is the place for kayak exploration of the mangrove forests of this protected area.

Day 25. Snorkelling this morning then depart for Kyun Phila (Great Swinton Island), one of the most beautiful in Myanmar.Swim, snorkel, kayak and fish in the pristine waters. Camp on the long beach overnight.

Day 26. Proceed to Cavern Island for sea kayaking. At low tide it is possible to kayak into the sea caves here.

Day 27. Depart from Kawthoung to Ranong, Thailand.

Return to Kawthoung and enjoy a glass of champagne on arrival in port. Transfer to the border and exit the country to Ranong, Thailand.
